One of my most treasured moments was meeting his Holiness Jetsun Jamphel Ngawang Lobsang Yeshe Tenzin Gyatso; born Lhamo Dhondup,[note 2] 6 July 1935. He is the 14th Dali Lama and has travelled the world, speaking about the welfare of Tibetans, environment, economics, women's rights, nonviolence, interfaith dialogue, physics, astronomy, Buddhism and science, cognitive neuroscience, reproductive health and sexuality, along with various topics of Mahayana and Vajrayana Buddhist teachings. A recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize in 1989 and the US Congressional Gold Medal in 2006, Time magazine named him one of the "Children of Mahatma Gandhi" and Gandhi's spiritual heir to nonviolence.
A very good friend and amazingly spiritual woman. I love this treasured moment with the wonderful Shirley MacLaine, an American film, television, and theatre actress, singer, dancer, activist, and author, who's film career started in 1955 in Alfred Hitchcock's classic thriller The Trouble With Harry, and was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actress for her performances in Some Came Running (1958), The Apartment (1960), Irma la Douce (1963), and The Turning Point (1977), before finally winning for Terms of Endearment (1983). MacLaine is also known for her film appearances in Around the World in 80 Days (1956), Sweet Charity (1969), Being There (1979), Steel Magnolias (1989), Postcards from the Edge (1990), Defending Your Life (1991), Guarding Tess (1994), In Her Shoes (2005), and Bernie (2011).
I love this treasured moment with this wonderful man; a former U.S. Representative from Ohio, serving from 1997 to 2013, he was also twice a candidate for the Democratic nomination for president of the United States in 2004 and 2008. He was a candidate for governor of Ohio in the 2018 election, Dennis Kucinich
A wonderful man and incredible English actor and activist. who's first major film role in the romantic drama The French Lieutenant's Woman (1981), earned him a BAFTA nomination for Best Actor. After receiving classical training at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School, Irons began his acting career on stage in 1969 and has appeared in many West End theatre productions, including the Shakespeare playsThe Winter's Tale, Macbeth, Much Ado About Nothing, The Taming of the Shrew and Richard II. In 1984, he made his Broadway debut in Tom Stoppard's The Real Thing and received a Tony Award for Best Actor.

- Since seeing Julia for reflexology at the aptly named Sanctuary my health and well being has vastly improved. I believe she is a genuine healer.
- Having visited the Upminster Sanctuary for over ten years, I have found the nurture, care, treatment and advice of Julia Massey invaluable in that time. A true sanctuary from the world’s stresses and strains.
- I have been having massage and reflexology at the Sanctuary for over 10 years and normally try to have a treatment every week Mrs Julia Massey runs the Sanctuary and i am very fortunate that she does my massage as well as reflexology Over the years I have had many treatments either in a hotel or on a cruise but I can say that none of the treatments compere to the treatments I get at the sanctuary I would certainly recommend any one who needs a massage or some other wellbeing treatments to visit the sanctuary
Mr Eddie Wright
- I have been regular client of Julia’s for the past 10 years. I have tried reflexology and healing, and loved them both. Whenever I book an appointment with Julia, she always has plenty of time for me and I can’t imagine how I would have dealt with challenges that life has presented me in the past years without Julia’s professional help. Last week I have received healing on distance, due to Covid 19 restrictions, and I was amazed how powerful it was despite us being miles apart. I can’t recommend Julia and her Sanctuary enough.
Intuitive and empathetic, Julia is a gifted therapist and has an innate love of people, plants and animals. The Upminster Sanctuary for Complementary Healing and Teaching is her dream child, created as a centre for healing and learning and dedicated to the love and care of all its visitors. Julia's hard work and determination brought about the opening of The Sanctuary on 5th October 1998.
Julia first came to the cottage when she was 19 years old, and purchased it in 1970, and bought the Sanctuary land in 1972. She made a promise to it there and then, that she would make it smile again. Julia has breathed love into this land continually since that day and as she promised, has brought 100's of people here over the years to heal, receive comfort, and rejuvenation.
The Sanctuary is Julia's passion and joy. The Centre of Excellence that she has created has grown and blossomed under her care and hard work, transforming it from a hidden, overgrown and littered scrubland to the beautiful, bountiful natural haven that it is today.
The Upminster Sanctuary is home to much wildlife; birds flock here, Julia is caretaker to three Beehives, who thrive here and her own family of hens and cockerel are very happy. Julia's love of permaculture is evidenced in her Cottage Garden with its bountiful harvests all year round. She is very grateful for her relationship with nature.
Julia dedicates her life to her work and The Sanctuary, where she practises Holistic Therapies, along with only the best Tutors and Therapists who reflect her love of all things natural and earthly. Julia and her team continue to offer the highest quality Complementary Care in The Community.
Julia has a private contract with all her clients:
"I will do all I can to help you, please do all you can to help yourself!"
Julia continues: "My mother was a District Nurse and Midwife and so I am no stranger to the medical profession. I began seriously investigating complementary therapies and dietary habits after falling to serious illness. Following an endless round of hospital visits and tests I decided to explore a different route. I studied nutrition and became aware of many other marvellous healing practices. Cutting a very long story short, by changing my personal outlook, diet and spiritual understanding, I managed to heal myself without the use of medication, embarking on a path which has now taken me full circle."
Julia had searched for her purpose, always having had a call to work with the earth and nature. She has truly found her purpose here, and The Upminster Sanctuary is the result of her continual calling to care and heal. Julia emphatically believes that our life experiences, including her own divorce, provide catalysts for growth and development; enabling us to empathise and assist others in their time of need. These experiences, coupled with her high level of training and development, help Julia to offer the exceptional level of care that she does today - treating others as she herself would wish to be treated. Julia will take a personal interest in your wellness, in a timeless manner. Taking care to learn about your history, family, nutrition, environment, life goals, etc as well as physical complications. Clients return year after year and friendships are born from the reciprocal care and respect given.
She trained with the Tisserand Institute as an Holistic Aromatherapist and Reflexologist instructed by Robert Tisserand in the art of blending essential oils and by Dr Christine Page in Anatomy and Physiology. She will use only organic oils in her aromatherapy prescriptions, and advanced massage techniques. Reflexology is an incredible therapy and over the years Julia has incorporated many techniques, both learned to advanced level, and intuitive, in her treatments.
Julia has studied Bach Flowers for over twenty years and teaches a three-day intensive course here at The Sanctuary. All our Bach Flower Remedies come from Healing Herbs and Julia has enjoyed many courses and meetings in Hereford with Julian Barnard and his team. Her love of natural, earth-based remedies underpins all her treatments and therapies, helping you to heal in harmony with nature, following a truly holistic pathway.
Julia has achieved full healership with the NFSH and has gained enormous experience over the years working as a Healing Support Facilitator for a long period of time.
Julia is an Angelic Reiki Practitioner and has studied Alchemical Healing. She visited Egypt to further research and connect with the healing energies she feels so drawn to.
Julia enjoys teaching Meditation, Mindfulness and Spiritual Development classes.
She has studied Kinesiology, Body Harmony and to ease sinus congestion works with Thermal Auricular [ear candling] incorporating tapping and neuro muscular massage.
Julia has also incorporated into her practice Indian Head Massage and Natural Lift Face Massage using organic essential oil prescriptions with magnificent results.
