Upminster Sanctuary

At The Sanctuary we have a yoga class for everyone.  We cater for all levels from absolute beginner to advanced yogis.  We have specific classes for fertility, pregnancy, post-natal and menopause.  We welcome men and women to our classes and use our beautiful gardens for classes on warm summer days.

We adhere to Government Covid Guidelines so you can be assured that classes are kept small and safe.

YOGA CLASSES AT THE SANCTUARY

BEGINNER YOGA CLASS

Instructor – Olga Pari

Olga offers an introductory class for beginners which is a mixture of Hatha Yoga and Vinyasa Flow in a calm and relaxed environment.


BEGINNER & INTERMEDIATE YOGA CLASSES

Instructor – Michelle Spencer

A fusion of many yoga styles to improve your physical fitness, strengthen your focus and stimulate prana (life force).  Regular yoga practice develops peace of mind, a strong healthy body and profound spiritual assurance.


ADVANCED YOGA CLASS

Instructor - Denny Berfield

A variation of Hatha/Vinyasa and Kundalini activation practices.  These classes consist of asanas, mudras, pranyama, bandhas, mantra, chakra stimulation and meditation.  Some of the exercises are not suitable for beginners but if you are looking to advance your yoga practice and achieve postures like the headstand, then this is the class for you.  You will be corrected when necessary and your progression encouraged.  You will leave feeling elevated, relaxed and have mental clarity, in this intermediate to advanced class.


KUNDALINI YOGA

Instructor - Jag Kaley

Meditation in Kundalini Yoga contains specific, practical tools that carefully and precisely support the mind and guide the body through the use of breath, mantra, mudra, and focus. The range and variety of meditation techniques in the Kundalini Yoga tradition is truly extraordinary. Yogi Bhajan passed on hundreds of meditations tailored to specific applications. There are meditations that reduce stress, work on addictions, increase vitality, and clear chakras, to name a few.


PILATES

Instructor - Anastasia

Regular Pilates helps improve posture, improves balance and joint mobility, muscle tone and strength, alleviates back pain, stress and tension.


RESTORATIVE YOGA

Regular 2 hour Workshop 

Instructor - Michelle Spencer

Two hours of pure relaxation to restore your central nervous system and reset yourself.  Poses are held for 5 or more minutes, but are completely supported by bolsters, blankets, blocks and cushions to allow your mind to completely turn off.


FERTILITY YOGA

Instructor - Hayley Ely (consultation based)

A class specifically designed to honour the hormonal and emotional transitions throughout your cycle.  Consciously using movement and breath to calm the body releasing physical and emotional tension, allowing the body to ease away from the stress response which means there is more progesterone available for reproduction.


PREGNANCY YOGA

Instructor - Hayley Ely

A place for the mum to be to connect to her baby and her body.  Learn beautiful breath-work, deep relaxation techniques and a gentle yoga sequence specifically designed for the pregnant body.  Meet other mums to be and build a supportive community of long-term friends.


POSTNATAL NEW MUMMY SUPPORT & YOGA (with BABY)

Tuesday or Wednesday mornings (6 week course – Term time only) 

Instructor - Hayley Ely

A warm welcoming community of likeminded mums where the needs of your baby always come first.  Learn soothing breath work to connect back to you.  Gentle yoga sequence to strengthen your body and gorgeous stretches to ease away achy muscles from feeding and caring for your new baby.  There is always time for baby yoga and massage with songs and movement enhancing bonding and communication between parent and baby.  I will even make you a hot cuppa!


YOGA FOR THE MENOPAUSE

Regular Course (5 week Series) 

Instructor - Michelle Spencer

This series of yoga classes will be a safe space to share our experiences, as well as learn some gentle yoga and meditation to alleviate the symptoms of menopause, including perimenopause and post menopause.  No yoga experience is needed. 


MENOPAUSE WORKSHOP

Regular 2 hour Workshop

Instructor – Michelle Spencer

Gentle yoga, laughs, refreshments, support, breathwork, meditation. Come and be supported and learn how to manage your symptoms in this phase of your life.  Prepare yourself for your second spring.
